Captain Byron Williams joined the Daytona Beach Police Department in 1999.  Since becoming a member of the Daytona Beach Police Department, he has had the honor of serving in numerous capacities. He has been a part of the Community Policing Unit, being a liaison between the community and the Police Department with a mission of bridging the divide.  He served in undercover capacities operating in the Street Crimes Unit and the Special Investigation Unit focusing on street level and drug trafficking organizations.  He has always had a major focus on engaging with the community with an understanding of empathy and respect.  After being promoted to sergeant in 2007, he continued to define himself with a diverse background in the Criminal Investigations Unit focusing in Persons Crimes and Robbery/Homicide Unit.

After being promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in November 2016, he was assigned to District One Patrol Division where he became a mentor to many.  In July 2017, he was promoted to the rank of Captain and currently is assigned to the Support Resources Division.

Captain Williams is a graduate of both Daytona State College and Bethune Cookman University with a BAS degree in Supervision & Management and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice.

Captain Williams has attended numerous leadership trainings to prepare him for his current assignment to include the Florida Leadership Academy, FBI LEEDA 57th Executive Leadership Institute, The Southern Police Institute for Leadership and The Senior Management Institute for Police.
