Applications are being accepted to serve on the city’s newly formed Citizens’ Police Review Board. City commissioners approved the formation of this new board at their July 15, 2020 meeting to add an extra layer of accountability and transparency between the police department and the public they serve. The board will meet quarterly, or on an as-needed basis, and members will serve three-year terms.
Duties of the seven-member board include reviewing the police department’s internal investigations and disciplinary outcomes in cases involving officer criminal conduct, excessive force, false arrest or unlawful search. The board may also make recommendations to departmental policies and procedures.
The city is seeking five, at-large members who are residents of Daytona Beach and two additional members, who are residents or business owners in Daytona Beach, and have experience or training in criminal justice, law enforcement, defensive tactics, law or the military.
