[ARCHIVED] Curfew Established Due To COVID-19 (Coronavirus)

capri presser 04-01-2020

An overnight curfew is established by the Daytona Beach City Commission in an effort to slow the spread of COVID-19 (Coronavirus).

The nightly curfew is in effect from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning April 2 (Thursday). It applies to anyone within Daytona Beach city limits, including visitors.

The curfew will run until at least April 8 as determined by city commissioners during last night’s meeting (March 31). It could be extended weekly after that depending on how the virus is affecting the community.

There are specific exceptions to the curfew. Those include:

  • Travel to and from work
  • Medical emergencies
  • Food delivery services (including third parties)
  • Emergency utility repairs
  • Dog walking, provided that it’s done according to the guidelines established by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC)

Restaurants offering drive-thru, delivery and take-out services are still able to remain open during the curfew.

Food pantries will also be able to operate during the curfew according to the guidelines established by the CDC. That includes those run by:

  • Daytona Beach Housing Authority
  • Existing houses of worship
  • Other 501(c)(3) organizations subject to conditions imposed by the City Manager to protect the health, safety and welfare of all in Daytona Beach.

Any violations of this order may be prosecuted as a second-degree misdemeanor according to state statute and city code, but it is our hope that everyone in Daytona Beach complies with this order voluntarily.

See City of Daytona Beach Resolution 2020-74 (PDF) for more details.
