On Wednesday, November 27, 2019 at approximately 7:30 p.m., Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) officers were dispatched to 140 North Franklin Street in reference to a person shot.
Officers arrived on scene and contacted the victim - 36-year-old Fausto Flores-Hernandez - who was unresponsive and laying in the doorway inside the residence with a single gunshot wound to the head.
The victim and family members were seated at a table inside the residence near the front door eating dinner. The victim heard shooting outside of the residence and got up to look. The victim began to open the front door and was struck in the head by one round passing through the door from outside. The victim fell on the floor as family members rendered aid and dialed 9-1-1.
Flores-Hernandez died at the scene.
Other family members (three adults and two youths ages eleven and twelve) were inside the residence during the incident. The unknown subject(s) shot from the roadway.
A total of 19 spent rifle shell casings were recovered in the street, on Oak Street, diagonal from the front door. Several rounds struck the structure, windows, and a single round struck the front door above the door knob hitting the victim.
It's unknown at this time if the subject(s) fled on foot or in a vehicle. No one else inside the residence was injured. At this time, there are no witnesses to the shooting.
The family’s priest and DBPD’s Victim’s Advocate are assisting and consoling the family during this incident. The Medical Examiner removed the victim from the scene.
No videos, photographs, or emergency calls will be released at this time.
At this time, there is no correlation with this incident and the recent homicides of Eric Gordon and Sammy Watson.
