On Saturday, November 23, 2019 at approximately 2139 hours, officers responded to a weapons complaint (sounds of gun shots reported in the area) and a vehicle crash on Russell Drive and Cedar Street.
Officers arrived on scene and observed that a vehicle had driven through the rear, fence of Campbell Middle School and struck the school building, final resting spot. Building structure is intact with minimum damage.
An 18 year old, Eric L. Gordon (B/M, 09-05-2001) of Daytona Beach, was found slumped over in the driver’s seat of a vehicle, bleeding profusely, and suffering from a gunshot wound to the left side of his head. Gordon was treated on scene and transported to Halifax Hospital by emergency personnel. Gordon was in critical condition and unresponsive. Gordon was pronounced dead several hours later, approximately 1 a.m. Gordon’s family has been notified.
Witnesses in the general area, reported hearing the sound of gunshots. The driver’s door of the vehicle was shot multiple times from the outside.
