City Commission approves local State of Emergency
Daytona Beach Mayor Derrick Henry declared a local state of emergency at 2 p.m. on Thursday, August 29. The declaration, which is valid for a period of seven days, allows the city to take emergency measures to protect the health and safety of its population and to protect against property damage.
Sandbags available
Sandbag supplies will be available in the parking lot off of Jean Street, east of the police department’s Midtown Precinct at 995 Orange Ave. Residents are asked to bring their own shovels to fill bags and there is a limit of 10 bags per person. The sandbag supplies will be available until from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.

The city of Daytona Beach will open its Citizen Hotline on Friday, August 30 at 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Shelters

If evacuations are issued, the city of Daytona Beach does not issue passes for re-entry to the beachside. Typically what happens is people will show their driver’s license or other form of photo ID that shows they live in the area they are trying to access. Officials and public safety also work with people who are trying to get to work, and encourage people to have ID or something from their workplace which verifies their place of employment.
