[ARCHIVED] Fatal Motorcycle Accident On Derbyshire Road

A 25-year-old Holly Hill man has passed away after his involvement in a traffic accident today (August 10) in the Derbyshire area.

Jarrett R. Henderson was pronounced dead at Halifax Health Medical Center around 30 minutes after officers responded to the intersection of Derbyshire Road and Sixth Street.

Investigators believe Henderson was behind the controls of a maroon Honda CBR 1000 when the motorcycle sped past an officer working a stationary detail at Derbyshire Park around 9:15 this morning.

That officer radioed a safety BOLO (Be On The Lookout) to fellow officers in the area, advising that the Honda was accelerating at a high rate as it traveled north on Derbyshire Road towards Sixth Street.

Around one minute after that BOLO went out, emergency dispatchers received a call regarding a traffic crash at Derbyshire and Sixth.

Traffic Homicide detectives think Henderson sped through a red light at that intersection, colliding with the right front side of a 2013 blue Ford Edge driven by 53-year-old Antoine L. Williams.

Preliminary investigation shows the Ford driver had the green light as he attempted to turn north on Derbyshire from the eastbound lanes on Sixth.

The impact sent the motorcycle sliding onto its side and into a parked vehicle nearby, ejecting the rider at that point. The motorcycle also grazed the bottom of a nearby tree and a fence before coming to a stop.

First responders found the rider in the front yard of 907 Derbyshire Road and transported him from there to Halifax Health Medical Center.

It appears the rider was wearing a helmet when the crash happened but it was dislodged at some point after initial impact.

No injuries were reported by the driver of the Ford. No other people were involved in the crash.

The motorcycle rider’s next of kin has been notified.

Both vehicles were towed from the scene after investigators finished processing for evidence.

The intersection was shut down to traffic for some time so investigators could work and to clean up accident debris.
