[ARCHIVED] Firefighters Wear Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness

Throughout the month of October Daytona Beach firefighters will trade in there normal uniform and wear pink shirts in support for breast cancer awareness.

Few sights grab the public's eye like a fire fighter dressed in bright pink. It's more than a piece of clothing—it's a statement that you won't stand for the tragic toll breast cancer takes on lives.

According to the National Breast Cancer Foundation, 1 in 8 woman will be diagnosed with breast cancer in there lifetime and is the second leading cause of death in woman. Each year it is estimated that over 220,000 women in the United States will be diagnosed with breast cancer and more than 40,000 will die.

Daytona Beach firefighters support and encourage all woman to get regular screenings. If caught early, in the localization stage, the 5 year survival rate is 98%.
