[ARCHIVED] Campus Fire Safety

As the summer comes to a close, the Daytona Beach Fire Department would like to remind everyone the importance of fire safety on college campus. Between 2007 - 2011, U.S. fire departments responded to an estimated average of 3,810 structure fires in dormitories, fraternities, sororities, and barracks. While 84% of these fires were a result of cooking equipment, it was responsible for 2 civilian deaths, 30 civilian injuries, and $9.4 million dollars in property damage. Most of these fires occurred on Saturday and Sunday with the peak times between 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. In an effort to keep the students safe, we are asking all students to practice "campus fire safety" to keep everyone safe.
