UPDATE: (Aug. 2, 2023) The city has resumed full control over its official Facebook page and we are continuing to work with Meta, Facebook’s parent company, to provide extra security measures to further safeguard our page. During this incident, the breach was limited to the city’s Facebook page and it did not impact other city infrastructure systems.
Original message (Aug. 1, 2023): The City of Daytona Beach is asking followers of its Facebook page to disregard recent posts until further notice. The account was hacked. Police detectives and the city’s Chief Information Officer Hossam Reziqa are investigating the attack and are working diligently with Meta, the parent company of Facebook, to restore the page to its original state. Followers are urged not to provide personal information or passwords or click on any links if prompted. We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused.
