The city is hosting a parade starting at 6 p.m. Thursday, April 20, to celebrate Mainland High School’s successful year in Class 5A boys and girls sports. The parade will start at Brown & Brown Insurance (300 N. Beach St.) and travel south to Jackie Robinson Parkway. Immediately following the parade there will be a celebration at Jackie Robinson Ballpark.
Beach Street will close from Main Street to Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. starting at 3:30 p.m. As guests arrive for the parade, motorists can expect Beach Street to have limited access from Dr. Mary McLeod Bethune Blvd. to Orange Avenue after 4 p.m.
At 5 p.m., Beach Street will be closed from Main Street to Orange Avenue for the parade. Message boards are on the roadways advising motorists to use Palmetto Avenue as an alternate route (instead of Beach Street). There will be detours directing motorists to use Main Street or Veterans Memorial bridges during the parade. Roadways should reopen about 7 p.m.
