A 19-year-old Daytona Beach resident faces a first-degree murder charge for the shooting death of another man whom he believed was spreading rumors about him being homosexual.
Jakari D. Webb was taken into custody by the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) soon after officers found him while serving a search warrant at a home on Garden Street around 8:45 last night (June 28, 2022). He is currently held without bond at Volusia County Jail.
A handgun was also found on the Garden Street property.
Detectives were able to obtain the search warrant following a thorough investigation into the murder of 19-year-old Telan K. Mann five days earlier, according to DBPD Police Chief Jakari Young.
“Our homicide unit has been working this case non-stop since Telan was fatally shot,” Young added. “I commend them for a job well done and for providing Telan’s family some closure. It doesn’t replace his life but I hope it does give his loved ones some measure of peace moving forward.”
Mann’s body was discovered just before 2 a.m. last Thursday (June 23, 2022) near Oak Tree Circle and Forest Glen Boulevard, soon after officers patrolling that area heard shots fired. Officers found him in a pool of blood and with multiple bullet wounds on his body. Mann passed away on scene.
Using technology, DBPD’s Criminal Investigations Division (CID) was able to piece together Webb’s movements before and after Mann was murdered.
Besides the first-degree murder charge, Mann is also charged with a probation violation and for resisting arrest after he unsuccessfully attempted to flee from SWAT and K-9 officers who found him on the Garden Street property.
