Memorial Day weekend is expected to be busy in World Famous Daytona Beach. In addition to people going to the beach, the city is expecting large crowds for these events:
- Heroes Honor Festival (concert at Daytona International Speedway)
- High School graduations at the Ocean Center
- Orlando Invades Daytona (not sanctioned by the City of Daytona Beach)
- Daytona Beach Bandshell Summer Concert & Fireworks Series
The Police Department is increasing its presence throughout the city and has requested mutual aid from area law enforcement agencies for the busy weekend.
Residents and visitors are asked to plan for extra drive time and be patient as law enforcement agencies work to ensure traffic and pedestrian flow, especially in the core tourist zones. Those zones are along Atlantic Avenue (S.R. A1A) between U.S. 92/International Speedway Boulevard (ISB) and Seabreeze/Oakridge boulevards as well as along ISB near Daytona International Speedway.
Because of the crowds and extra law enforcement presence, parking will be limited more than normal in some areas including lots in or near Breakers Park, the Daytona Beach Pier and within the core tourist zones.
At the discretion of the Police Department, the drawbridge on Main Street may not be available to vehicle traffic as normal. At times of heavy congestion, it may be reserved for those who live or work on beachside or those going to the Ocean Center for graduation ceremonies. When access is limited, those who wish to use the Main Street Bridge should have a driver’s license, graduation tickets or employee identification to show law enforcement at the checkpoint on the western side of the bridge.
We encourage anyone else who wants to travel to the beachside this holiday weekend to use any of the other three bridges spanning the Intracoastal Waterway:
- International Speedway Boulevard Bridge
- Seabreeze Boulevard and Oakridge Boulevard Bridges
- Veterans Memorial Bridge (Orange/Silver Beach Avenues)
