The Health Department is hosting a Family Fun Day from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, April 25, at their newest location at 421 S. Keech St. The event will include an expo of available community services, rock painting, scooter giveaways, grocery giveaways and vouchers, arts and crafts, food, music, games and a kids’ zone. Families will be able to learn about WIC, health screenings and immunizations, dental services, responsible pet ownership and low-cost pet services, mobile hotspots available from Volusia County Library Services, utility and housing assistance and summer programs for children.
The Health Department opened the Southside Health Zone in 2020 in the heart of the city’s Midtown area in an effort to provide residents with easier access to its services. The Keech Street location is next to the John H. Dickerson Heritage Library, Halifax Health’s Keech Pediatric Neighborhood Care and the East Volusia Educational Center Head Start. Campbell Middle School is also adjacent to the clinic.
Services at the Health Department’s Southside Health Zone include the WIC program, which offers supplemental nutrition and education to pregnant, postpartum or breastfeeding women and children up to age 5; clinical services including birth control for men and women; pregnancy testing; breast exams and Pap smears; immunizations for children and adults, and testing and treatment for sexually transmitted diseases and HIV.
