The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) is investigating a traffic accident between a car and a motorcycle where the motorcyclist involved passed away at the scene from injuries sustained in the accident.
Officers responded to the intersection of Caroline Street & U.S. 92/West International Speedway Boulevard around 5:30 p.m. today (March 28, 2022), soon after Volusia County emergency dispatchers received a call for help.
Members of DBPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit arrived shortly afterward to process the scene for evidence and speak to witnesses.
Preliminary investigation shows that a white 2015 Chevrolet Malibu driven by a 24-year-old Daytona Beach woman was heading north on Caroline when the vehicle entered the eastbound travel lanes of ISB. A black 2021 Kawasaki motorcycle heading east on ISB entered the intersection at the same time.
The front of the Kawasaki collided with the front driver’s side of the Chevrolet, leading to the motorcyclist – a 35-year-old Daytona Beach man – being thrown off the motorcycle. He landed on the road near the impact point and was pronounced dead by paramedics shortly after they arrived on scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet moved her vehicle from the intersection after the accident happened and stopped on Keech Street, where she waited for police to arrive. She has been cooperating with investigators.
Both vehicles have been towed from the scene and will be processed further for evidence as part of this active and ongoing investigation.
An autopsy will be performed to determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in this accident.
Charges are pending the completion of the investigation.
