The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) is asking for the public’s help to locate the vehicle and driver involved in a hit-and-run crash which killed a 77-year-old Daytona Beach man.
The incident took place just after 8 o’clock last night (March 3, 2022) at the intersection of Mason Avenue (State Road 5A) & Derbyshire Road.
The victim - Alfred Rawling Fleming – was attempting to cross Mason on foot heading northbound when he was struck by the front of a dark-colored sedan heading west on Mason.
An officer who was stationed in the area when the incident occurred left his vehicle to give aid to Fleming. As he went to help, he saw the dark-colored sedan stop briefly at the intersection of Mason Avenue and Lewis Drive before it continued on its way from the scene.
Paramedics arrived on scene within minutes and transported Fleming from there to Halifax Health Medical Center (HHMC) as a Trauma Alert. He passed away from his injuries at HHMC around an hour after arrival.
The preliminary investigation from DBPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit indicates that Fleming was not within a marked crosswalk when he was struck.
Detectives are currently working this case actively, searching for any photos or videos of the vehicle or driver which can help us identify them.
We’re asking anyone who may have seen this vehicle or knows who was behind the wheel to contact Officer Ashley Rossi right away at (386) 671-5366 or RossiAshley@DBPD.us regarding Case 220003648.
