The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) has arrested a 30-year-old Daytona Beach woman for the murder of a 60-year-old Daytona Beach man inside his Midtown home near Sunnyland Park.
Takendra M. Dawkins faces a felony count of first-degree murder for the shooting death of Walter I. Lawrence on February 7, 2022 (last Monday).
Dawkins’ first appearance in front of a Volusia County judge is expected to happen sometime tomorrow (February 10, 2022) after she’s booked into Volusia County Jail.
Detectives with DBPD’s Criminal Investigative Division (CID) took Dawkins into custody earlier today (February 9, 2022) around 1:00 p.m., over 48 hours after Lawrence was found shot in the head by officers responding to a call for help at his home on 715 Washington Street.
That call for help came into Volusia County’s emergency dispatch center at 2:43 a.m., prompting officers to arrive within minutes. Those officers discovered Lawrence’s body in a back bedroom inside the home.
Lawrence was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:54 a.m. by paramedics with the Daytona Beach Fire Department.
CID detectives are still working to determine the motive behind the murder.
No other information in this case is available for release at this time since the investigation remains active and ongoing.
