The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) is actively investigating a traffic accident where a man lost his life after he was struck by two vehicles.
DBPD units responded to 1270 Beville Road soon after Volusia County emergency dispatchers received calls from bystanders at 12:13 this afternoon (November 15, 2021), finding a man lying on the eastbound lanes. He passed away at the scene.
Members of DBPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit arrived on scene shortly after the call was placed to process for evidence and speak to witnesses. Until that work is done, that section of Beville Road eastbound will remain closed.
Investigators believe the victim – who is not being identified until his next of kin is formally notified – was attempting to cross Beville on foot heading north when he was clipped by a silver Hyundai Genesis heading east on Beville. The impact pushed him directly into the path of a gray Nissan Altima which was also heading east on Beville. That vehicle also struck him.
Both drivers involved in this accident remained on scene.
No charges have been filed at this time in relation to the accident and will not be until the traffic homicide investigation is complete.
DBPD briefly detained the driver of the Nissan after a small amount of methamphetamine and a firearm were discovered at the scene, but he has since been freed. He will not be charged in that matter.
The names of the drivers involved will be released at a later time.
