The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) is investigating a traffic accident where a woman was killed after she was struck by a vehicle while attempting to cross South Ridgewood Avenue / U.S. 1 on foot.
Officers were dispatched to the scene in the 500 block of South Ridgewood Avenue (near Cedar Street) at 8:44 p.m. last night (September 23, 2021), finding the woman lying on the road in the southbound lanes. Paramedics with the Daytona Beach Fire Department (DBFD) pronounced her deceased on scene soon after our officers arrived to investigate the incident.
The 63-year-old Daytona Beach woman driving the vehicle involved – a blue 2003 Dodge Caravan – remained on scene to speak to detectives with DBPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit.
Investigators believe the driver of the Dodge Caravan was heading south on U.S. 1 using the outside (right) lane when the victim stepped out in front of the van while attempting to cross U.S. 1 on foot heading west.
The Dodge Caravan was towed from the scene and will be processed further as part of the ongoing investigation. Charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation.
As of this time, DBPD has not positively identified the victim who died on scene. Officers did not find any identification on her while processing the scene for evidence and other methods of identifying her have not been successful. We can confirm that she is white.
