Daytona Beach City Commissioner Quanita May (Zone 3) is hosting two townhall-style public meetings to hear citizen input regarding Accessory Dwelling Units (ADU) Monday, Aug. 2, and Tuesday, Aug. 3. Both meetings begin at 6 p.m. There has been discussion at recent commission meetings to add ADUs as a permitted accessory use in the Land Development Code. An ADU is a bonus residential dwelling unit – like a mother-in-law suite or a garage apartment – in addition to an existing single-family home. An ADU can be a separate apartment located inside a home, attached to the outside of a home, or a freestanding unit on the same lot. The ADU item is anticipated to be discussed by the City Commission at their meetings in September (Sept. 8 and Sept. 22).
