Residents can register for an educational tour of the city’s full-scale direct potable reuse demonstration testing site (DTS) at 9 a.m. Tuesday, July 27. Due to limited space in the facility, attendance will be capped at 15 people and filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
Located at the city's wastewater treatment plant off LPGA Boulevard, the innovative facility processes treated effluent and produces purified water, which is then returned to the wastewater treatment process and is not placed in the city’s drinking water supply.
The facility is part of a pilot program with the St. Johns River Water Management District to provide valuable, continuous, real-time data that will be available for use by regulatory agencies to assist them with developing standards and guidelines for this technology. The two-year data gathering effort of the demonstration is expected to be completed this fall.
