A 53-year-old Daytona Beach woman has lost her life after she was injured during a single-motorcycle crash on the final Saturday of Bike Week 2021.
Officers with the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) responded to the 500 block of South Nova Road (State Road 5A) – just north of the George W. Engram Boulevard intersection – soon after a witness called 911 for help at 6:18 p.m. on March 13, 2021.
Those officers found that woman and the motorcycle driver – a 54-year-old St. Augustine man – lying on the roadway in the southbound lanes and needing medical attention.
DBPD’s Traffic Homicide Unit arrived a short time after the accident was reported to process the scene.
The driver of the motorcycle involved – a black 2015 Harley-Davidson Street Glide – told DBPD that he and his female passenger were traveling southbound in the right lane on the 500 block of South Nova when a vehicle making a U-turn pulled out in front of him, causing him to lay his motorcycle down on the road. That’s when he and the female passenger were ejected from the motorcycle.
Paramedics transported both of them from the scene to Halifax Health Medical Center (HHMC), she as a trauma alert with life-threatening injuries and he with minor injuries which were not life-threatening.
The female passenger died on the afternoon of March 15, 2021 at HHMC.
Both people involved were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash.
Charges are pending the conclusion of the investigation.
