An associate professor at a local university who also serves as a pastor for a local church has been arrested by the Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) for possessing hundreds of child pornography photos.
DBPD’s Advanced Technology & Cyber Crimes Unit (ATAC) now has John Robert Griffin II in custody after serving a search warrant this morning (January 6, 2021) at Griffin’s home (115 Muirfield Drive), culminating an investigation which started over two months ago.
Griffin is an associate professor of air traffic management at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. The 73-year-old Griffin is also the pastor at Riverbend Community Church in Ormond Beach.
Officers with DBPD’s ATAC Unit were first notified in October 2020 about Griffin having and sharing child pornography through various phone apps. Investigators worked the case from that point, eventually obtaining a search warrant from a Volusia County judge for Griffin’s property.
Once inside Griffin’s home, ATAC Unit members seized various electronics found there, including computers and phones which held over 200 sexually explicit photos of children. Officers are now doing a thorough search of those electronics to determine just how many Griffin had in his possession.
Griffin was taken into custody at his home during the raid. He will be booked at Volusia County Jail once officers finish processing his paperwork.
DBPD plans to charge Griffin with at least 30 felony counts of child pornography possession. Investigators are still actively working this case, so additional charges against Griffin may be added at any time.
