[ARCHIVED] Challenge Daytona this weekend at the Speedway

Highlight_Traffic Alert

This weekend, the Daytona International Speedway will host more than 1,000 triathletes for Challenge Daytona, an endurance sports festival, for its second consecutive year. The main event is Saturday, Dec. 5, and motorists can expect traffic delays from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m. at major roads near the speedway. Daytona Beach police officers and personnel will close most intersections on the course with assistance from the Volusia and Flagler County sheriffs’ offices and law enforcement officers from Port Orange, New Smyrna Beach and Edgewater. Bellevue Extension will be closed from Williamson Blvd. to Tomoka Farms Road. Motorists coming to Daytona Beach from DeLand are encouraged to take alternate routes including I-4, S.R. 40 and S.R. 44, instead of U.S. 92.

For a detailed list of road closures and detours, view this PDF.

In addition to the professional triathlete race, there will also be races for athletes of all ages and abilities. Spectators are welcome. For more details, visit www.challenge-daytona.com.
