The Daytona Beach Police Department (DBPD) is conducting a homicide investigation after a young man was shot, Sunday, Nov. 29, 2020.
911 calls were received at 3:19 p.m. in reference to a person shot at Derbyshire Park basketball courts.
Upon arrival, officers found the male victim laying on the ground on the basketball court, suffering from gunshot wounds to his upper body area. The victim was treated on scene and transported to Halifax Hospital by medical personnel. The victim later, succumbed to his wounds at 4:05 p.m.
The investigation revealed that the victim and others were playing basketball when the suspect(s) approached the victim on the court. No words were exchanged when the suspect(s) fired multiple rounds at the victim, striking him in the upper body area and leg. The suspect(s) fled the park on foot, westbound on 3rd Street, then northward to an unknown location prior to police arrival. It is believed that the victim and suspect(s) are known to each other. No further information is available for release at this time.
At this time, this incident is not connected to other recent incidents. This is an isolated incident as we continue to ensure the safety of our residents and visitors of the City of Daytona Beach.
