CompStat

What Are They?

The Daytona Beach Police Department utilizes a computerized database to map criminal activity, detect patterns and identify hot spots in real time.

Known as CompStat (an abbreviation of Computer Statistics), the GIS-based program originated with New York City's police department in the mid-1990's.

We used a modified version of that program (CodeStat) for our code enforcement team to help keep track of property violations and other code-related matters.

Philosophy

The Daytona Beach Police Department's command staff, along with investigators and detectives, regularly review these maps and related information when discussing crime reduction strategies, personnel and resource management.

It also helps in making quality of life improvements for our residents and visitors.
