Implemented by Daytona Beach Mayor Derrick L. Henry in 2019, the year-round program is for youth ages 5 to 7 years old to inspire them to develop a sustained interest in reading and math.
"Our focus is to help teach our young children to love reading and learning," said Mayor Henry. "By having a fun place kids can go to weekly, and positive interactions with people who are dedicated to improving their literacy skills, we are working toward improving the lives of those in our community now and in the years to come."
The city’s after-school program is seeking volunteers to help elementary-aged students improve their math and reading skills. The after-school program meets 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday throughout the school year and meets at the Schnebly Recreation Center, 1101 N. Atlantic Ave. For more information or to apply, call (386) 671-8266.
